The camera was focused on a middle-aged man with sandy hair done in a bad comb-over who was wearing a standard suit with a standard kahki trench-coat. The wind was kicking up a bit, causing the lapels to flap and his hair to escape from the gel plastering it to his balding crown. In the background, a redish, flickering glow back-lit him, and a brief image of yellow police tape and the scence of emergency vehicles provided the ambiance as he began his live coverage.
"This is Ken Williams, reporting to you live from what used to be the home of the reclusive Lords Of Chaos owner known as "Aramis". Reports are still sketchy, as the police are being evasive about the details, but one thing is very clear."
At his verbal que, the camera panned out, taking in the image of what could have once been a small house, though it was very difficult to tell that now, since what was left of it was still engulfed in flames. The roof was collapsed as well and streams of water were pouring onto it through the efforts of the fire department.
"Very little is left of her house, and so far no one's been able to contact her. It's unknown as yet if she was at home when this terrible fire was started. Although some of her neighbors were available for comment, none of them could say when they had last seen her or.... wait, what's this?"
This, in fact, was a group of paramedics rushing around with a gurney to the back of the house. The camera zoomed in to follow them, but they'd soon rounded the corner and had disappeared from view.
"It appears that someone's been pulled from the wreckage. Though how anyone could have survived that inferno, I don't know... Apparently they have the fire under control more so in the back and have gotten some firemen in there to check for survivors."
The camera swung back to him and he continued.
"What we know so far is that an explosion of some kind was reported to the police at 7:19 this evening. Both police and fire department personnal were dispatched to the scene, and from what I've been able to gather, the structure was already engulfed in flames. Shortly after they arrived, the roof caved-in. One of my confidential sources tells me that although Aramis has not been in the public eye lately, she was still working on the wrestling federation's matters, and was in fact in the process of recruiting "new talent." We also know that one of the former federation's owners has escaped from prison. So far, we don't know if that has anything to do with the fire tonight, but who can say for certain?"
He turned again to face the burning building, which the fire department seemed to be getting under control, and the camera again took in some closer shots of it. Then just when it was about to go back to the reporter, the paramedics from earlier reappeared from around the back side of the house, not seeming to be in a hurry, and guiding the gurney along, which now seemed to be carrying a laden body-bag.
"Well, that answers that," Ken continued, trying to sound suitably grave. "There wasn't a survivor after all, just a casualty of a terrible fire. Let's go and see if whoever's in charge here can give us a statement on the events of this evening."
The camera followed Ken as he worked his way through the various emergency people on hand, most of whom gave him dirty looks for his trouble or tried to ignore him completely. Eventually he found a police officer who seemed to be giving out orders, and none-too delicately shoved the microphone in his face.
"Officer, can you give us an idea of what happened here tonight? Do your people think it was fowl play and was that the body of Aramis that we saw going by?"
The officer gave the reporter an annoyed look before speaking.
"Yeah, I can tell you what happened here tonight. The &$%#in' house is *#$%^#in' burned the #%$@ up! That's what happened tonight. As for anything else, we aren't GOING to find anything out until the #&$^in' house has stopped burning the #$@% up, and even then, we aren't going to tell any of you a damn @%#$ing thing until we feel good and ready to. Now get that thing outta my face and let me do my job before I have you escorted from the area for getting in our #$%$ing way!"
Apparently, whoever was in charge of sencoring at the network was on his toes tonight. After clearing his throat and stepping away from the police officer, he again faced the camera, his cheeks showing a bit more red than could be accounted for by the mostly dying flames.
"Well.... um, there you have it folks. We will keep you up to date when we find out more about this terrible tragedy. This is Ken Williams signing off."
The camera faded out.
